A New Chapter | BSF

Hello darlings,

I previously advertised this blog post as me sharing my YTFFTO Experience, which I still will, but I needed to say this first.

I was reading Local Wolves magazine and I had this sudden longing to write, I mean, I write already. I’m writing this right now, I know that, but I wanted something – similar?

I’ve been writing for online blogs for nearly 4 years. I love to write. This is what I want to do. I WANT to write. I NEED to write.

Yet – I’m still not satisfied.

I want to write, but I also want to take photos and grow and explore the world of online and real-life journalism with a group of likeminded people.

Sadly, I can’t do that here.

After playing with this idea for a while (almost a year), I’ve decided that I want to try writing for a small, online magazine. I have the inspiration I have the talent. I’m capable, I know I am.

This is not the end of Body Soul Fruit, not at all, posting will continue as usual, but I wanted you all to be aware that this won’t be all I’m working on right now. I love you all,

Getting Back on Track // Fitness | Body Soul Fruit

  So, I’ll be honest, this week….was horrible. I mean, I ate junk 99% of the time and I’m almost a hundred percent sure that I’m deficient in vitamin everything at this point. I worked out a total of once, and I skipped both my Kickboxing classes AND my yoga class. Whenever I have weeks like this (that are rare, yet utterly horrible) I make sure that the following weeks I am dedicated to fitness and health. 

Today we will be discussing how to get back on track with fitness and healthy living.

1) Write it down

a plan that’s not written down (with pen and paper, not an iPad), is just a thought. Making a verbal commitment to yourself is basically meaningless sometimes. So, if you’re serious about fitness, write it down.

2) Plan ahead

The best way to stick to a plan is to be organized. If you plan to go to the gym, but you didn’t organize your gym bag and now you don’t have running shoes with you. you’re less likely to workout.  Again, with meals. I hate meal prep. I just hate it. It’s repetitive and stressful, but I do plan my meals before I go to sleep for the following day. ONLY that following day, that way I can take into account what I might be craving, what’s on my schedule, what’s in my fridge etc.

3) Commit

make a non-verbal commitment, other than writing it down. Writing it down is great and all, but lets be honest, it’s not going to keep you from eating that ice cream sandwich. What I would do is invest a sizable amount of money (for some this might be 1 dollar or fifty) into something (like a jar, for example) every time you think of giving up insert 10 cents into your jar, by the end of the week, if you haven’t given up buy yourself a treat (for me that’s usually an almond milk frap or a new swim suit) but if you have given up gift all the money in the jar to someone else, like your sister, for example. Now you’ve just lost all your money.

**this can be done with other things too, not just money.

4) Make a Goal

My personal goal is to get my energy back.

5) prepare 

In the past, it would take me on average around 2.5 seconds to fall off the fitness train for months. Preparing for any obsticalsna and mountains that may stop you from keeping your commitment and tackler the issue before you even have to face it. (Call the restaurant ahead of time or ask for 50% salt at the movies$. 

Now that you’ve got a full arsenal of tools to help you get back on track, it’s time to put it in motion. So, I encourage you, pull up your socks and grab your weighs. You can do this.

Blog Updates and Changes | BODY SOUL FRUIT

ANNOUNCMENT

As many of you may have realized, I’ve started posting more and more beauty related posts, while I love beauty and fashion,  this is ultimately a lifestyle blog that’s meant to include all elements of, well , my lifestyle! not just beauty. 

Nearly 50% of the readers/followers on this blog are vegan/cook/fitness bloggers and the other half of them are either beauty/fashion bloggers or people who don’t write blogs of their own. This simply means that I have to come up with a way to strike a balance so that my content will be interesting and educational to every reader.

When I started this blog 4 months ago, I thought that I would never ever ever have time to take it seriously, but upon a fortunate series of events I now have that time. So, for the month of May I will be posting TWICE a week. On Fridays, par usual, about veganism or any other fun stuff like that and on Tuesday for fashion, beauty etc.

I will also start to schedule most of my posts to publish at approximately 6PM EST every Tuesday and Friday!

I will still continue with Surprise Saturdays whenever I see fit.

The Best Bath Ever | Body Soul Fruit 

 (Side note: how do you guys like the idea of cover art for each post?) 

Who doesn’t love a nice relaxing bath on calm Friday night? Or anytime, really? I for one love pamper nights especially when I’m feeling down and out or stressed. I actually aim for at least one bath a week.

Today on Body Soul Fruit I am going to share with you my pamper night routine (or my “perfect bath”).

Before any relaxation night I usually put my body through Physical Torture. This helps me to feel more relaxed for some reason? This week I’ll do the blogilaties 1,000 squat challenge.
Alas, my pamper night routine.
1. Make sure your bath stopper will actually stop the water from draining. 
If not, use a thick piece of plastic wrap and tack it underneath the metal stopper to help it from leaking as quickly.
2. Chose water temperature 
I love warm baths, slightly cooler than tea, but warmer than a shower is usually a good temperature for me.
3.+ Add salts/oils 
I use plain Epsom Salt in my baths but other cheap alternatives are baby oil, coconut oil or any essential oil, dried flowers (I really want these but I can’t find them anywhere) LUSH also has bath melts.
4. Add extras 
**if you used a bubble bar, you probably already did this step, skip to 5** I use scented bubble bath or a bath bomb…or two.
3. Face Mask 
Weather it be homemade or store bought face masks are great for relaxing bath I use the little individual packets from Freeman Beauty, so might use a peel or mud masks.
4. Food / Entertainment 
Most of the time I use these baths to watch the show I’m binging on, I just started Chicago PD which is a phenomenal show, but I doubt I’d watch it for relaxation. I’d probably end up watching a movie. Today I’m feeling maybe The Perfect Man or Pitch Perfect? I will probably also bring tea (ginger, par usual) and a snack like fruit or popcorn.
5. Aromatherapy / Mood 
If you’re not using scented products you might want to use incense or scented candles, personally I hate both of those so I usually prefer to have unscented candles just to set the mood.**
**Fire Safety is important here, a lot of products are highly flammable.
6. Condition you body 
If you don’t have a body conditioner from LUSH or The Body Shop you can always make a DIY or just use a thick moisture rich lotion
7.  A scrub and some shaving gel 
Towards the end of my baths I will use scented or unscented body scrubs to get rid of dead skin cells on my skin I use these scrubs with either my hands, a rag or a loofa/exfoliation brush. I’d also take this time at the end of my shower to shave my legs (tmi?) at this point I will have already rinsed off my mask.
8. Before I get out of the bath I take a cold shock shower for around 30 seconds. (I feel better when I do this? The hot water can be nauseating for me?)
9. As soon as I step out the shower I will apply my facial exfoliant and massage oils (mostly coconut, sometime argon)
10. 80% of the time I will do Yoga With Adrienne’s Yoga For Relaxation sequence and then I will rinse my exfoliant and apply either my aveeno active naturals or coconut oil as my moisturizer.
after that I will more then likely have a few more of my snack then paint my nails, finish my movie and go to sleep

Popular Cruelty Free Cosmetic Brands | BodySoulFruit

We’ve all seen the photos. The poor bunnies that are injected with chemicals that cause their eyes to fall right out their heads or the innocent rats who’ve been permanently disfigured for our personal cosmetic uses. Obviously, as a vegan, I don’t support the cruel and inhumane practices of brands such as L’Oreal, MAC Cosmetics or Herbal Essences.

Today we will explore the world of cruelty free cosmetics!

1) Anastasia Beverly Hills

This brand is NOT vegan certified as far as I know, but it doesn’t test on animals and they have cosmetics that every beauty guru on YouTube swears by.

2) Hard Candy Cosmetics

The familiar Walmart brand is praised for having affordable and durable makeup as well as some of the best lash serums available in the drugstore, but did you know that HC is cruelty free?

3) Kat Von D

This Sephora high-end brand is well known in the makeup community for producing durable, wearable bright bold lip colours. Kat Von D Cosmetics are also certified Cruelty Free!

4) Milani Cosmetics

Who doesn’t appreciate affordable and quality products? If you’re into makeup any at all I’m positive you’ve heard of Milani Cosmetics a common brand that you can find online or at retailers such as Target.

5) NYX Cosmetics

Nyx is certified cruelty free!

Additional CF Brands:

  • Physicians Formula
  • Lime Crime
  • LUSH
  • The Body Shop
  • Urban Decay (They still call themselves cruelty free yet they are now owned by L’Oreal which makes them questionable.)

Certain brands have now started selling products in China. China requires animal testing so by default these brands have began testing on animals. There are lots and I would suggest you do your own research before purchasing any product. For now, here are a few:

LUSH Reviews // Suprise Saturday

1). Shoot For The Stars (Seasonal)

shootforthestarsThe Shoot For the Stars bath bomb is a Christmas seasonal bomb that I tried last December, from what I remember it smelt strong, but not of a particular scent that I could say was definitely ____. According to LUSH.ca, it’s supposed to smell like honey and toffee? Which, is sort of confusing to me considering honey is not vegan and LUSH is vegan?…none the less, the shoot for the stars bath bomb was fun, but it wasn’t a favourite. It broke almost instantly when I dropped it in the tub and it reminded me somewhat of baking soda. The colours were nice, not particularly amazing though. And the glitter didn’t show as much as I would have hoped.

Price: $6.50

Overall: 6/10 

 2). Dragons Egg

dragonseggThis is my favourite bath bomb by far. It had a citrus-y lemon scent that even people who hate citrus will love. It was strong, but not toooo strong. I also really wish I would’ve had the full experience with this bath bomb because I went through a lot of struggle to even get it in the tub (for example, I ran the bath without putting in the plug, so the hot water ran out in all the rooms in the house, and it took about 30 minutes to get even semi warm water so I ended up taking a half freezing bath. Fun, right?!) Anyway, this bomb took a while to break while in the tuband left a beautiful white gold colour (check it out on my Instagram here).

Price: $6.75

Overall: 10/10 

 3. Sunny Side

sunnyside This is actually the only bubble bar that I’ve ever used and I can say with confidence that I LOVE IT! Aside from the glorious , white foamy bubbles that it brings it gives a decedent  scent of citrus orange and underneath the bubbles a rich, goddess-like golden filled with sparkles. (made from seaweed, by the way, so they won’t make a regrettable mess in your tub). My only real issue with this bar is that it’s really small in comparison to other bubble bars and bath bombs, so you can only really use it twice instead of three or four times. Price: $7.25

Overall: 9.5/10

#TRAINLIKEANANGEL | My Workout Routine // Inspired by Lily Aldridge

I have a confession.

I’m OBSESSED with VS Angels. I mean Adriana, Candice, Karlie, Alessandra, Lindsay, Behati, Douzten and of course, Lily Aldridge.

So naturally, I aspire to be more like them, I mean, I took up kickboxing after seeing Adriana Lima in pink boxing gloves during the 2014 VS Fashion Show.

Today, I decided to post my current workout routine, which is obviously influenced by Lily A.

Let’s hop right into it 🙂

Monday:

On Monday’s I practice kickboxing at home. Sometimes I do cardio kickboxing videos (for example: Fitness Blender, xhit daily, blogilates) and other times I practice Air Self-Defence kickboxing that I’ve learned during kickboxing class.

After that I usually do a Yoga Foundations video by YogaWithAdrienne on Youtube. This past Monday, I did my recent favourite one “the lizard pose”.

Tuesday:

Tuesday is strength day so I usually do arm lifting (3 reps of 10 overhead lifts, 25 bicep curls, push ups, crunches, wall sits, russian twists, bicycles, inner thigh pulses, squats)

Wednesday:

Wednesday is kickboxing class day for 45 minutes, so to fill the extra 15 minutes I need to make it an hour I’ll do a short yoga video.

Thursday:

Thursday is “challenge” day. Sometimes I do the 1,000 squat challenge, the 100 burpee burnout or even the xhit daily bootcamp workouts.

Friday:

I try to keep Friday as fun day so I do CrossFit (or at least CrossFit like variations because I don’t know or go to a cross fit gym…)

Saturday:

Saturday morning is my favourite time to workout mostly because I have a lot of energy. I usually do a targeted strength workout or POP cardio

Sunday:

Sunday is yet another stretching day I usually work on flexibility because I want to be able to do the splits by December!

As you can probably tell, I only go to the gym once a week and that’s for kickboxing/yoga and I do most of my workouts in the comfort of my own home or outside at a park. You don’t NEED  a 50 dollar gym membership or fancy equipment, all you need is your body, some motivation and maybe a dumbbell and mat.

Disclaimer: As a human, my workouts grow and change. I like change, in fact, ask me in two weeks and this will be completely different than it is now. Also, this works for me. I was asked multiple times on the Twitter and the Tumblr to do this post. This is not a plan or a public regime, this is how I choose to keep my body moving, personally. besos.

FULLY VEGAN GROCERY HAUL. ON THE CHEAP

Yellooo, beautiful dumplings (lol…I have no idea why I said that) Happy Chinese New Years! I’ve been gone for a little while and I feel horrible for that. A few days go I went shopping … GROCERY SHOPPING (my favourite). I wanted to share with you my haul of things because I feel this could potentially help new vegans with creating a grocery list. so without further ado, lets get into the list 🙂

NOTE: I try to follow an 80/10/10 lifestyle

Fruit

  • Strawberries x2 (ALL TIME FAVE)
  • Granny Smith Apples x6
  • Lemons (15c each) x5
  • Nectarines x4
  • Bag of Green Grapes
  • One Bag of Oranges

Vegetables

  • Broccoli Heads x2
  • Leaf Lettuce x1 Head
  • Cucumber x1
  • Tomatoes x5
  • Red, Orange, Yellow Bell Peppers (1 of each)
  • Sack of Potatoes
  • Avocado x5
  • Package of Spinach
  • Onions

Grains

  • Pita Bread
  • Rice
  • Flour
  • Whole Grain Crackers
  • Oats
  • Pasta

Beverages

  • Almond Milk
  • Ginger Tea
  • Lemon Cleanse Detox Tea

  • Orange Juice
  • Bolthouse Farms Juices (Amazing Mango and Green Goodness in jumbo sizes)

Proteins

  • Canned pre-cooked Black & Pinto beans
  • uncooked kidney beans
  • toasted un-salted almonds
  • roasted, salted peanuts
  • Peanut Butter

Quick Snacks

  • Popchips (trust me, they’re healthy, low in fat, not fried OR baked AND they’re vegan + they taste great)
  • Tea Biscuits
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Pretzels
  • Nature Valley Peanut Butter Granola Bars (Crunchy)
  • Box of Clif Bars (for running and yes, Clif is vegan)

Canned or Packaged

(There are certain fruit  I buy canned then rinse and freeze myself. It’s cheaper than the 10 dollar bags of pre-frozen fruit you’ll find in the store. plus it’s less refined)

  • Mangos
  • Pineapples
  • Renae’s Sweet Onion dressing
  • Maple Syrup
  • Organic Popcorn Seeds

    This is the beginning, of a revolution? Probably not. But this blog is the beginning of something, my goal for this blog isn’t to be the most popular.  My aim is to inspire and raise awareness. For a completely plant based lifestyle that will not only alter your health in the most positive way possible, but it will change your state of mind, your ability to appreciate nature for everything that it is, your ability to love YOURSELF and YOUR BODY!
    I’m a living testimonial.
    After spending most of my life on the “typical western diet’ at the ripe age of 12 I decided to become vegetarian, even as a little kid I had an interest in the food industry, at age 14, last year, I watched the documentary entitled ‘Earthlings’, which you can watch here.  That film changed the way I looked at animals, animal abuse, human superiority over other Earthlings ect. After that, I decided to do my part by spreading awareness of the film and all the beautiful benefits of the vegetarian lifestyle.
    Now, at age 15, I’m starting this blog.
